FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS

For some just hearing the word “hypnosis” creates a variety of images in their mind. Scientists have researched hypnosis for years and thanks to modern marvels of this technical age we live in, Scientists are now able to measure brain waves and thought.
Below are some of the most commonly asked questions. If, after reading these frequently asked questions, you still want to know more, please call Curtis W. Johnson at 208-731-3895 or email curtis@mvhypnosis.com

Q: What is the difference between the unconscious mind and the conscious mind?

A: The unconscious mind is that part of the mind outside of your immediate awareness. Your conscious mind can be described as the area of your mind illuminated by a spotlight. The information in the area outside of the spotlight is still there, but it is in your unconscious mind.

Q: Isn't hypnosis a form of witchcraft?

A: No. Hypnosis is a natural state that the brain experiences when the conscious mind is bypassed and powerful communication directly with the unconscious mind is possible.

Q: Can anyone be hypnotized?

A: Yes. You have experienced it many times. It occurs naturally. Some examples of naturally occurring hypnosis are when we find ourselves daydreaming. Another common example is called "highway hypnosis." This occurs when you find that you have been driving for a while and you almost miss your turnoff. You had been so focused on some other idea that you almost forgot your upcoming turn. That's what it's like to be hypnotized, except you have a hypnotist there to make sure you get the results you want.

Q: How do I know if I can be hypnotized?

A: While there are some people who have been told they couldn't be hypnotized, or have believed in the past that experiencing a trance state isn't something they can do, anyone who is willing and able to follow instructions can experience powerful hypnotic states.

Q: How many sessions does it take to get the results I want?

A: The answer to that is close to the same length of time it takes to build a house! It really depends on what the client has as goals and objectives, and what sort of energy the client is willing to devote to those goals. Everything in hypnosis is under the control of the client, who is in trance, including the rate of progress.

Q: Is hypnosis safe? Can hypnosis hurt you?

A: In over two hundred years of modern hypnosis, no one has ever been hurt by hypnosis. The American Medical Association sanctioned the use of hypnosis in 1958. Since then, hypnosis has been used by millions of people world-wide. Hypnotists commonly receive referrals from medical and psychological professionals in order to help their clients.

Q: Is my session confidential?

A: Yes. Your session is a time for you to use the training of your hypnotherapist to allow you to make important changes. What you choose to do with your mind is kept confidential between you and your hypnotherapist.

Q: What is a hypnotherapy session like?

A: First, you will learn about hypnosis. It has been demonstrated that the more a person knows about hypnosis the better they will do in the hypnotherapeutic process. After your hypnotherapist has answered all of your questions, you will be guided into a state of hypnotic relaxation, where you will begin the process that will help you rapidly achieve your desired results.
